In January 2008, Doug Jardine
of Profiles in Caring contacted Locks of Love
about filming a segment to tell the story of what
we do. Profiles in Caring is a not-for-profit
enterprise whose mission is "good news about
good work around the world". Profiles in
Caring is syndicated both nationally and internationally.
Broadcast stations in your area can be found by

To help spread "good news
about good work around the world", Profiles
in Caring launched the video sharing website,
www.goodtube.org.

Since 2006 , Locks of
Love has awarded a combined total of $1,000,000
to the University of Miami Department of Dermatology
to fund research into alopecia areata. Portions
of the grants will fund studies to be conducted
with a new excismer laser. Mice who naturally
develop alopecia in 20% of their population will
afford the scientists their first study group.
In addition, approval for treatment in 30 patients
has already been received. The gift will also
establish an endowment to conduct symposiums on
the research findings. With these grants, Locks
of Love is expanding its focus in hopes of new
treatment possibilities for our recipients.
